Meet the Athletes: Kestra, Kite & Dovekie of the Kestrel Disc Dogs

For Caitlyn Olvitt, life revolves around motion, partnership, and the kind of drive you just can’t teach. With her loyal three dogs, Kestra, Kite, and Dovekie by her side, she’s built a life in the disc dog community.

Traveling across the country to teach, perform, and compete, this team embodies what it means to live with purpose and momentum.

A Team Built for Anything

Kestra, Kite, and Dovekie are not one-dimensional athletes. They are versatile, high-performing dogs who thrive in a wide range of environments.

Kestra, the seasoned leader of the pack, competes in disc and NACSW nosework and also enjoys exploring herding, dock diving, and flyball. She shines in performances as a top trick dog, but her favorite role is typically greeting fans and collecting treats along the way.

In the middle of the troop is Kite who brings explosive energy and athleticism. Known for her big air ability, she competes in disc, dock diving, and box jump, and has set distance records with Caitlyn. And while she excels in many areas, freestyle is where you’ll see her passion truly come alive.

Dovekie, the youngest at just over a year old, is already proving she belongs on this dynamic team. She has qualified for the Skyhoundz World Championships and is just getting started. With plans to explore flyball, barnhunt, dock diving, and agility, her future is excitingly wide open. She has already shown discipline by learning and performing over 100 tricks! 

Together, they represent a rare blend of experience, power, and potential.

Where It All Started

Caitlyn’s journey into dog sports was not planned. It started with a rescue dog and a trainer who introduced her to a local disc event. Watching freestyle for the first time sparked something immediate in her, and what began as curiosity quickly turned into obsession.

She took her time learning, growing, and even borrowing dogs to compete before finally getting Kestra. And now that partnership changed everything: years later, she is living the life she envisioned as a teenager, traveling, competing, and performing with her own team.

The Heart Behind the Performance

Behind every routine and competition is a deep bond built on trust and understanding.

One of Caitlyn’s most memorable moments came during the Incredible Dog Challenge Last Chance Qualifier in 2021. Competing with Kestra, everything clicked. The timing, the communication, and the connection all aligned, and it felt effortless.

They placed seventh out of more than 25 competitors, but the result was not the defining moment: it was the feeling of being completely in sync.

Looking Ahead

With a full competition schedule, growing recognition, and a deep commitment to their craft, Caitlyn and her dogs are just getting started.

From freestyle routines to world-level competition, their journey is one to watch. They are not just competing. They are building something bigger with every throw, every jump, and every mile traveled together.
