Perennial Top Ten Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race contender, Paul Gebhardt, feeds Momentum Premium Athletic Dog Food to his team of canine athletes. As the recipient of multiple Humanitarian Awards recognizing excellence in dog care, Paul has been honored by veterinarians for his dedication to his team.
Paul has this to say: Over a decade of racing, I had tried some other brands of commercial dog food, looking for a product that was easily digestible, affordable and allowed my team to perform at a high caliber. I have found this in Momentum. It is important with the food that I provide to my team that the dogs like the flavor, and I have found the kibble is in a size and texture that the dogs prefer. As with any dog owner looking to maximize the opportunities to care for their "best friends", cost is a consideration. "The pricing on a dog food is always secondary to the nutritional benefits for my team," Paul states. He went on to say, "so the fact that Momentum is affordable is a true bonus for our kennel. I am able to benefit my team through additional avenues when I can save on the total food bill."
While Paul may travel several thousand miles each season with his dog team and use a few more bags of Momentum than the average pet owner, Paul says he would "recommend any dog owner that cares about their dog's health and nutrition to consider Momentum." Paul Gebhardt Kasilof, Alaska I started feeding Momentum Premium Athletic Dog Food about four years ago, at first using it as a supplement to another kibble I had fed since 1992. Starting in 2009, I switched my dogs over completely to Momentum, and I have been impressed with three main things:
First, it is obviously highly palatable. My distance sled dogs jack-hammer their food bowls. You can smell the richness when you tear open a new bag.
Second, the formula, retooled mid-winter of the 2009-10 racing season, plainly works. My dogs ate a diet of largely Momentum with minimal salmon and beef snacks, and performed at a high level in 200-mile races with no issues. I fed it dry, mixed with water and soaked out from a cooler as a trail snack. They keep their weight and their coats shine.
And lastly, Momentum and Pursuit are refreshingly and reliably in stock when I need to buy a ton or two, and the price is competitive with other high-octane, premium kibbles. Tim Hunt’s distribution system, using local mushers who store pallets of kibble in their shops/warehouses, saves us all money (at least here in Alaska), and he has the feed shipped up to Alaska regularly so it is always available.
I’m sold on this stuff, and cheerfully feed it to my dogs in winter and summer. It is so full of protein and fat that a little goes a long way.
Jon Little Kasilof, Alaska When I decided to make a serious comeback in distance racing, one of the important part was to find a commercial dry food that I could use without problems when training hard and racing. Because that better quality your dog food is, that less quantity you need to put in to your dogs to get enough energy for your team to do what you expect from them. And you avoid loose and blood stool as well.
After testing a couple of other brands which I was not totally satisfied with, I email Dr Tims and we agreed on me buying a test shipment of 7 pallets. That was early fall 2008. I found Momentum to be way better than any dry food I ever used before. Last summer we fed all our dogs ( + 160) with only Momentum with fresh, cold water. Now in winter( early December) and long runs, we have already +1200 miles on race dogs and 7-800 miles on tourist dogs and yearlings, we still feed less than 1/3 of total feeding with meat, over 2/3 is still dry food. I have never had a dry food that came even close to this. I look forward to this winters racing season, because with good food and serious training put in to my dogs I am as ready as anyone else for the big races. This summer I also started to sell Dr Tims to other mushers.
…I can honestly recommend the food – if you find something better, well, then use it! Taisto Thorneus Team Lapland & Lapland Wilderness Tours, Sweden As many dog mushers do I was in search of a better food with less feeding hassles. After reading about Dr.Tim's Momentum I called Tim Hunt to ask about the food. He was full of answers, and as a musher himself knew what others were looking for. Over three years ago I made the change to Momentum, and have never looked back. Dogs look great, coat, feet, attitude and performance are outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality dog food.

We have fed Momentum since 2008 and have had very good results with the diet. We have won several championship races and have raised over 40 puppies on Momentum, all that are making up our current race team.
During this time we have actively taken part in the ongoing development and testing of the "New Momentum" and can now surely say that this time, Dr. Tim has nailed it!! This is by far the best dry food I have ever fed during my 25 years in sled dog racing. The need for supplementation in the form of meats or fats are gone. I have race dogs gaining weight in the middle of racing/traiining season that I earlier have had problems keeping weight on. Stools are excellent before and after runs.
This Momentum is dense and calorie rich which makes for small volumes to feed and most importantly, by far, is that the dogs tolerate it even under high stress situations.
If you are looking to improve your teams' diets and performance be sure to check out the New Momentum and Pursuit, you will be glad you did!
