Egil Ellis & Helen Lundberg Ellis' Racing Sled dogs Willow, Alaska
We have both been involved with sled dogs since the early 80s and have made it our living since 1994. Born and raised in Sweden we moved to Willow, Alaska in 2001 to seek a greater challenge in our sled dog racing carriers.
After a decade of racing at top level across Scandinavia and Europe we set our sights for the big championship races in Alaska for the first time in 1998.
For four years we traveled to Alaska from Sweden to compete in the Alaska race circuit and eventually we decided to move our kennel operation to Willow in 2001 and have not looked back since.
We have won all major sprint races multiple times since 1998. Including Open North American Championship 8 times, Anchorage Fur Rendezvous Open World Championship 4 times and the Tok Race of Champions 10 times.
Our kennel consists of about 60 adult dogs and we raise 20 to 30 puppies per year. All our dogs are crossbreeds between shorthaired pointers and Alaskan huskies, popularly called Euro hounds or Scandinavian hounds. We introduced this breed to the sprint-racing scene in 1998 and since then this type of dog has ruled the sprint races across North America. These days it is hard to find a top sprint racing team without the Ellis' bloodlines represented in their pedigrees.
