Company Information
You may ask, "Why on Earth should I pay attention to this guy about animals?" Well, the story starts at age eleven with Dr. Tim's interest in veterinary medicine and his first unglamorous job cleaning vet hospital kennels in the Detroit area; after graduation from Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 at the tender age of twenty-three, Tim responded to his personal call of the wild and moved hundreds of miles north to Marquette, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, to establish his own veterinary hospital. Soon after setting up shop, a friend took him on a dog run one crisp fall day; the next thing he knew he was hopelessly addicted and managing his own kennel of thirty five huskies.
Thus began Tim's introduction to canine athletes, canine nutrition, mushing and the eventual birth of Dr. Tim's Pet Food Company. Years of using other's flawed homemade diets and dissatisfaction with commercial feeds prompted Tim to develop his own recipes, specifically for canine endurance athletes and particularly to tackle the issues associated with the stressors they undergo in competitive situations. This was a monumental task, but through hard work and vision Dr. Tim’s Pet Food Company is fast becoming a defining element in the world of premium athletic pet foods.
Tim
Dr. Hunt has been a race veterinarian at the Iditarod numerous times as well as at the UP 200 and Midnight Run in Michigan; in addition, his mushing experience has brought him near and far to include: the Wyoming Stage Stop, the hometown UP 200 and Midnight Run, the Percy DeWolfe between the Yukon and Alaska, the John Beargrease in Minnesota, and La Grande Odyssee in the French Alps.
Tim's other accomplishments include the prestigious Humanitarian and Sportsmanship Awards in the UP 200 and the "Prix L'Orange' in La Grande Odyssee; he also worked on the UP 200 race board for three years, two of those as president. Tim trains a strong and healthy team every fall by himself, despite the heavy workload of running two businesses.
Tim and Mary live in Sundell, Michigan with their huskies, two cats, an elderly Dalmatian and a three-legged German Shorthair Pointer. Tim's step-son, Tom, is a medical student at Michigan State University in East Lansing, where he lives with his wife, Emily. Tim would like to say that in his spare time he plays softball, water-skis, and drinks wine, but in reality he mostly just sleeps and follows his fantasy baseball team far too closely.
