Food for Winners - Momentum and Pursuit

By Egil Ellis / October 7th, 2009

It has been over one year now since we made the switch to Dr Tim's Momentum and Pursuit high premium dogs foods. After the first racing season with the team powered by Momentum we are thrilled over the overall result and now look forward to the upcoming season with the dogs geared up and ready to roar!

When we started feeding Momentum we went straight over to it without any problems. It is great tasting and easily digested food for the dogs. After trying different ways of feeding Momentum and Pursuit; soaked, dry, once/day, several times/day.... we are now feeding it dry with a soup poured over it containing soaked Momentum to make a tasty broth. The main meal is given in the afternoon/evening and in the morning each dog gets about 1 quart of water containing soaked Momentum or Pursuit. The amount of kibble in this soup is about 1/2 - 3/4 of a cup of dry kibble/dog, which is soaked over night in cold water.

We also discovered that it is easy to over feed the dogs on Momentum with loose stools as a result. My advice would be to start out with a smaller amount than you think is needed and slowly work your way up and try out and see how much each dog can handle well. Remember, this is high potency dog food and some dogs are more sensitive than others. Right now, beginning of October, we are feeding about 50/50 of Momentum/Pursuit.

Our puppies are started on Pursuit at 3-4 weeks of age and dig right into it. It is amazing to see how a plate of Pursuit will catch their attention for the first time in their lives. They are always given the food soaked in cold water over night or for a few hours. This makes it easier for them to eat and keeps them hydrated. The puppies are fed three times/day up to around 4 months old when they are switched to twice/day feeding. All our young dogs, 1.5 years and younger have never eaten anything but Pursuit and Momentum and thrive on it!

As you can understand our dogs love the taste of Momentum and Pursuit, I have yet to see anyone of them not finish it as quickly as they can every time it is put in front of them! The coats on our dogs have also improved greatly with super shiny and soft furs. Last winter season we fed Momentum and supplemented with small amounts of meat and extra fat to boost the energy content even more and our dogs held their weight and stamina all season long. The team stood up to though early season training and we set trail records at the end of the season and our dogs were healthy and strong through out the winter.

The team is tanked up, screaming to go and ready to rock! See you down the trail.
